Gingerbread Spiced Baked Apples Recipe
The easiest and coziest healthy dessert for the holiday season 🍎💫
Let me introduce you to one of my favorite cozy treats: Baked Apple with Greek Yogurt and Gingerbread Spice. It’s super simple to make, requires minimal ingredients, and hits that perfect balance between sweet and comforting. Plus, the addition of gingerbread spice makes it feel like a holiday treat any time of year!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
This baked apple is a cozy, delicious treat with the perfect balance of tender fruit and creamy yogurt. It gives you all the comfort of apple pie but without the extra sugar and crust. The gingerbread spice adds a warm, festive flavor, while the Greek yogurt adds a healthy boost of protein. It’s the perfect mix of cozy and nourishing!!
Prep Time: 5 minutes I Cook time: 10-15min I 2 servings
Ingredients:
1 large apple (e.g., Honeycrisp or Pink Lady)
2-3 tbsp Greek yogurt
1-2 tsp maple syrup
1-2 tsp Gingerbread spice mix (see tips below)
1 tbsp roasted almonds (or nuts of choice)
Optional: Drizzle of maple syrup
Instructions:
Prepare the Apple: Core the apple and cut it in half.
Bake: Place the apple halves in the Air Fryer and bake at 175°C (350°F) for 10-15 minutes (or until soft and slightly caramelized on top, depending on your Air Fryer).
Prepare the Yogurt Topping: In a small bowl, mix the Greek yogurt with maple syrup until smooth and creamy.
Assemble the Baked Apple: Once the apple halves are tender, remove them from the Air Fryer. Spoon the sweetened Greek yogurt over the top of each half. Sprinkle with roasted almonds, gingerbread spice mix, and a drizzle of maple syrup.
Serve and Enjoy!
Tips and Notes
Not a fan of nuts? No problem! You can skip the roasted almonds and try a sprinkle of granola or even some shredded coconut for a fun texture.
Sweetness levels: The amount of maple syrup can be adjusted depending on how sweet you want it to be. If you’re using a really sweet apple, you might even be able to skip the syrup altogether.
Make it vegan: Use dairy-free Greek yogurt (or any plant-based yogurt you like) to make this recipe completely vegan!
Substitution ideas
Apple: While I love Honeycrisp and Pink Lady, you can use whatever apple variety you like. Fuji or Gala apples would work well too!
Greek Yogurt: If you're not a fan of Greek yogurt, you can swap it for regular yogurt, coconut yogurt, or any other creamy option that works for you.
Nuts: Almonds are my go-to, but feel free to use walnuts, pecans, or even pistachios for a different flavor and crunch!
Spices: If you’re not into gingerbread spice, try cinnamon and nutmeg instead—still warm, cozy, and delicious.
